StillWaterWatching, 2018-2021.

I set out to record what diverse sources of water (from puddles, to rivers to oceans) might see or experience. I dropped an action camera in the water letting it float and film independently. The project/installations consists of five 2 minute videos (a puddle, the Altlantic Ocean, the Nord Sea, and an Irish river) and stills I had extracted from the videos, which I left unmanipulated, grainy and broken up. Beautiful underwater images, pleasing to the eye, was not my aim, what the water might have seen, was. Via a very slow-fade slide show of the stills, new images developed, made by the projector. In 2019 I exhibited the five videos on small screens next to the slideshow, projected large on a screen made from biodegradable material, in the Detroit Science Museum and Gallery.

Various locations Ireland & The Netherlands. Nature, especially water, is under so much threat, I thought that if people had a better understanding what various sources of water, from puddles to rivers, to the ocean, might see and experience, we might treat our natural resources with more interest and respect. In diverse sources of water I dropped an action camera to auto-record in video mode. From these I extracted stills. The resulting images are unmanipulated, often a bit blurry and broken-up. They are not necessarily meant to be pleasing to our eyes or sensibilities. I choose them as being closest to the impressions I got at its source.

The videos show various sources of water, independently filmed by an action camera, some with sound or mixed together. The stills taken from these videos, were shown at the Science Museum, Detroit USA. The slow fade mode of the projection produced new images in between the stills.
