Capadoccia, Turkey. This region of Anatolia, in central Turkey where the village of the girls is located, features a very special and well-known landscape. Many people, including some of the girls, still live in cave dwellings going back to neolithic times. The typical fairy chimneys are thousands of years old and formed by wind, water and earthquakes, which eroded the soft and porous tuff rock more easily than the harder basalt, which lays on top. Many other volcanic rock types are found in the region as well. h
