Traces of a Western Civilization, 1990.

This installation combines nine 40x60cm “tiles” of NYC street details, which show repairs, wires, gum, paint, cement footprints etc.. The side panels show people underground, in the subway of 33rd Street and Park Avenue, where a lot of the pipes and wiring was visible. One side is all males. The other side is all females. The wall installation you see here measures about 3m wide x 2m high. It was exhibited in a show called Social Studies/Public Monuments at the Woodstock Center of Photography and published in their quarterly publication. All prints are analogue sepia toned gelatin silver prints.
